Olympus MJU 750 Video Guide

The Olympus MJU 750 is another digital camera that forms part of Olympus' weatherproof range. On the whole these are easy to use cameras with the added attraction of being able to operate in the rain.

This one has seven megapixels and a longer than standard 5x optical zoom lens. Although I have noticed a tendency for the length of zoom lenses to increase it is rare to see a lens of this length on a pocket sized camera. The level of zoom is still some way from the 10x or 12x zoom of super zoom models, but the extra capacity of this lens does make a noticeable difference.

The design of these cameras also makes them look a little different to many others. The MJU 750 has a front that slopes away giving it a distinctive look. It is available in black as well as silver.

One feature that starts to come into its own with this length of zoom is image stabilisation. This helps to reduce blur caused by camera shake. Camera shake is more of a problem in lower light situations.

The dimensions of the MJU 750 are 96 mm x 54 mm x 24.3 mm. This makes it just about pocket sized although you may have a bit of a problem squeezing it into any smaller pockets. In terms of weight it is 120g before the battery and memory card are added. This makes it one of the more lightweight cameras out there.

Otherwise the camera is a pretty typical point and shoot model. You should not have a lot of trouble getting used to the camera and once the battery is loaded you should find yourself up and running quickly.

One area where I felt the camera could be better is with the layout on the back. There are quite a few buttons and they are somewhat squeezed in lower down. This can make it harder for someone with larger hands. This is a fairly minor quibble though. You just need to take a bit of extra care when using the various buttons.

Also on the back of the camera is a 2.5" LCD screen. This is fast becoming the standard size. As with the majority of consumer level digital cameras there is no room for a viewfinder.

A feature I like is the in camera help guide. The purpose of this is to try to improve the standard of the photographs you take. It covers various subjects such as brightening a subject, adjusting the focus area and blurring the background. Having said that some of the tips are rather brief! It is still a helpful guide to anyone who is taking their first steps with photography or who would like to master the very basics.
