Olympus FE-240 Video Guide

What makes the Olympus FE-240 different to the majority of pocket sized digital cameras is the fact it has a longer than standard zoom lens. This model has a five times zoom as opposed to the more standard three times. Judging by the questions I get asked the longer lens on the FE-240 is likely to prove popular.

When it comes to other features this is a fairly basic digital camera. The camera itself takes charge of most of the key settings and you will find the FE-240 is really a simple point and shoot digital camera. The upside of the reduced set of features is that it helps to make the camera easier to use.

Without the battery and memory card the FE-240 weighs 115g. This makes it one if the more lightweight cameras. At 23mm wide you should have no problem slipping the camera into a pocket. The combination of size and weight means that it is easy to carry the camera around with you. You also have a choice of colours as the camera is available in silver and black.

Olympus have built 20mb of internal storage into the FE-240. A memory card is not supplied with the camera. 20mb is not likely to go far with this seven megapixel camera and you are likely to find yourself running short of space in the internal memory pretty quickly. Therefore picking up a memory card to go with the camera is a good idea. It is compatible with xD picture cards. These are readily available and you can choose between buying a card where you buy the camera or from a specialist memory card shop. There are a wide range of these online.

A lithium ion battery provides power to the camera. You will find a battery, charger and cable to connect the camera and charger in the box. A rechargeable battery helps to keep running costs to a minimum, but buying spares can be expensive.

One feature you may find useful is the some photography tips that you can access through the camera's menu system. These give you some basic help, but may be of use if you are fairly new to photography and would like some help getting started. The guide covers subjects such as brightening a subject, blurring the background and shooting subjects in motion.

As well as zoom you will find the camera has all the usual key features available such as macro mode, a self timer for when you would like to get in on the action and a movie mode. To compose your photos and to access the menu system there is a 2.5 inch LCD screen. This is fast becoming the standard screen size. There is no room for a viewfinder.
