The Sony SLT A65 is a 14 megapixels Digital SLR. It is a step up from the most basic Digital SLRs both in terms of features and price. This camera uses Sony’s Translucent Mirror technology.
As you would expect the SLT A65 has a range of manual exposure controls to give you greater creative freedom when taking photographs. These are Fully Manual, Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority. You also have access to standard fine tuning settings such as white balance and ISO up to 128,000. To capture fast moving action a burst mode capable of shooting a short sequence of photos at up to 7 frames per second is available. Focusing options include a 15 point Auto Focus system.
Sony have built image stabilisation into the camera body. The advantage of this is that you do not need to pay a premium for image stabilisation every time you buy a lens.
For composing photos you can choose between an electronic viewfinder and a 3 inch LCD screen. The screen can tilt and swivel away from the camera body to give you a better shooting position.
There are a number of features that Sony have transferred over from their compact camera range. These include face detection and smile shutter (the SLT A65 automatically fires off a shot if it detects someone is smiling). There are also sweep panorama and 3D sweep panorama modes.
In addition there is a High Dynamic Range mode. This is used to help you show extra detail in the lightest and darkest areas of photos when a scene has high levels of contrast. This feature works by merging three shots into one.
A similar technique is used in multi frame noise reduction and twilight modes. Both of these features aim to increase the quality of the photos you take in lowlight.
The SLT A65 is capable of shooting Full High Definition movies.
