Overview

The Sony A33 has been equipped with Translucent Mirror Technology. This is a new innovation by Sony and has allowed them to add a number of features to the A33 that you would normally expect to find on a more expensive Digital SLR.

For example the A33 is able to shoot at a top speed of around 7 frames per second. This compares with a typical speed of around 3 fps for an entry level Digital SLR.

Other features include 14 megapixels and the ability to record Full High Definition movies. For lowlight photography the maximum ISO setting is 12800. Focusing options include a 15 point Auto Focus system with 3 cross type sensors.

The 3 inch LCD screen can be pulled away from the body of the A33 and twisted round to provide you with a more comfortable shooting angle. The screen has a Live View mode to allow you to compose your photos through the screen. There is also an electronic viewfinder. This offers a 100% field of view.

Other features include a High Dynamic Range mode. In this mode the A33 fires off three consecutive shots. They are then merged in camera to give you a better quality image with increased detail showing in the lightest and darkest areas of the shot. Along similar lines are a noise reduction mode and a handheld twilight mode. These make use of the speed advantages offered by the A33 to take 6 consecutive shots and combine them together to increase picture quality.

Sony has built in image stabilisation. This helps you to avoid paying a premium for each lens you buy that would otherwise require image stabilisation to be built in. You are also able to produce panoramic shots through the Sweep Panorama mode. The A33 also offers a 3D panoramic option.
