The Sony A230 is the entry level Digital SLR introduced into the Sony range in August 2009. It is aimed at first time Digital SLR users. With this in mind Sony has included six pre programmed scene modes, plus an in camera help guide.
As you would expect from a Digital SLR at this end of the spectrum it is a small and lightweight model compared to some more fully featured models. Image stabilisation has been built into the body. This means you do not have to pay a premium for lenses with image stabilisation built into them.
A burst mode is available that gives you the option of consecutive shooting at speeds of up to 2.5 frames per second. Focusing is taken care of by a 9 point autofocus system. There is also a Dynamic Range optimiser to help you produce the best possible high contrast photos.
As the A230 is likely to be bought by people new to Digital SLRs you can buy it kit form. In this form it comes with a wide angle lens with a focal length of 18 – 55mm. There is a further option available to pick up a kit that also includes a 55mm – 200mm telephoto lens.
