The Samsung WB2000 has a number of advanced features. These include some that are difficult to find elsewhere.
To start with the WB2000 offers fully manual exposure controls. This includes aperture priority and shutter priority settings. There is a RAW capture mode. The main advantage of this is that it allows you much greater control if you wish to tweak your photos after they have been taken with a software package such as Photoshop.
More basic features include 10 megapixels and a 5x wide angle lens. There is a 3 inch LCD screen and the WB2000 is able to focus from 5cm away from a subject when placed in macro mode.
In burst mode you can capture up to 10 shots per second. Image stabilisation has been built into the camera and the lens has a large maximum aperture. This helps to pull more light into the camera for your photos, especially when lighting levels start to dip.
There are a number of features that make the movie mode stand out on this camera. To start with it is one of the few digital cameras that allow you to take a still image while you are recording a video clip. At the time of release the resolution of 1920 x 1080 is the highest level available on a compact digital camera (NB There are other cameras with the same resolution). Optical zoom can be applied while the movie is being recorded. There is also a special movie setting that allows you to capture footage at 1000 frames per second. This allows for slow motion playback.
One of the reasons why the WB2000 is able to shoot high speed movie clips and has such a fast burst mode for still photos is because Samsung have used a CMOS sensor. These are a step up from the more standard CCD types and are commonly used in Digital SLRs.
A feature I cannot recall seeing elsewhere is a pre capture mode. The WB2000 will take a picture when you press down the shutter button halfway. You can then opt to keep or discard the picture.
