The Pentax K-5 is a mid priced Digital SLR. It is built to survive harsh conditions. It has a stainless steel chassis and a magnesium alloy body. The inclusion of 77 separate seals makes the K-5 waterproof and dustproof. It is also capable of coping with temperatures down to -10 degrees centigrade.
More standard features include a 16 megapixel sensor and a 3 inch LCD screen. The screen is made up of 921,000 pixels. There is also a viewfinder offering a 100% field of view.
Pentax have built shake reduction into the body of the K-5. This means that you can avoid the expense of buying lenses with image stabilisation built into them.
Focusing options include an 11 point Auto Focus System. This has 9 cross type sensors. In order to capture fast moving subjects the K-5 has a burst mode that can shoot at speeds of up to 7 frames per second. Low light photography is covered by an ISO range of ISO 80 – 51,200.
If you are looking for maximum detail from high contrast scenes then you can take advantage of the High Dynamic Range mode. This mode fires off three pictures and then merges them into one. This helps to bring out extra detail in the brightest and darkest areas of the shot.
The K-5 gives you the option to capture Full High Definition movies too. The top speed for movie capture is 25 frames per second.
