Overview
The Panasonic Lumix DMC G3 is a 16 megapixel compact system camera.
Sometimes it can be hard to see what one camera gives you that another doesn’t with a lot of specifications appearing to be almost identical. With the Lumix DMC G3 one of the biggest differences is the features offered by the LCD screen.
To start with the screen is touch sensitive. This allows you to change some settings via the screen. One option that this gives you that I like is the option of setting the focusing area by touching the screen. The Lumix DMC G3 also has more traditional buttons and dials for changing settings as well. The screen also pulls out away from the body and twists round. This can be a big help when you are finding it hard to find a comfortable shooting position.
Another difference between the Lumix DMC G3 and other compact system cameras is the inclusion of a viewfinder.
In other areas the specification is more typical. For example you have access to a set of manual exposure controls (Fully Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority). Images can be stored in RAW format. This can increase the options you have if you are planning to enhance your images with a post production package such as Photoshop.
One area where Panasonic are consistently strong is when it comes to movie capture. In this case the Lumix DMC G3 is able to record Full High Definition movies. Another improvement on offer compared to some compact system cameras is the fact you can record stereo sound with your movie clips.
