Panasonic DMC FZ62

The Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ62 is one of the more advanced super zoom digital cameras. Although in terms of features it is a step down from the very top of the range it offers a very good balance between the features available and the price.

To start with it has 16 megapixels and a 24x zoom lens. The lens has a focal length equivalent to 25 – 600mm in 35mm format. This gives you the flexibility to squeeze in wider scenes as well as more distant subjects. This flexibility can be increased further if you take advantage of a feature Panasonic call Extra Zoom. Extra zoom makes more zoom available if you take pictures using fewer megapixels. Unless you are planning to make super sized prints you will not need the full 16 megapixel resolution. Therefore taking advantage of Extra Zoom makes sense if you feel you cannot zoom in quite close enough. The maximum zoom available is 54x when shooting at less than 3 megapixels.

Panasonic have coated the lens with a Nano coating. This helps to minimise any flare or ghosting. Image Stabilisation is available to keep unwanted blur under control.

The Lumix DMC FZ62 has a set of manual exposure controls (Fully Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority). These give you extra control over the way your photos look. For close up work you are able to focus from 1cm away from your subject. The Full High Definition Movie mode can record stereo sound. It also gives you a choice of formats to record video in (AVCHD and MP4).

For composing your photos there is a 3 inch LCD screen and an electronic viewfinder. The viewfinder has dioptre correction so that you can adjust the focusing of the viewfinder to suit your eyesight.
