The Panasonic Lumix DMC FX700 offers touch screen control in a small compact body. Where the Lumix DMC FX700 differs from a number of touch screen controlled digital cameras is that this camera offers some additional advanced features.
It is rare for a camera of this size to offer manual exposure controls let alone one that has a touch screen. The Lumix DMC FX700 offers fully manual exposure as well as aperture priority and shutter priority. Another feature likely to catch the eye of the more serious photographer is the large f/2.2 maximum aperture.
Headline figures of 14 megapixels and a 5x zoom lens don’t tell the whole story. The lens has a focal length equivalent to 24 – 120mm in 35mm format. This makes it a wide angle lens suitable for capturing wide scenes such as landscapes. As with most other Panasonic digital cameras you also get an option to increase the amount of zoom on offer when shooting at lower resolutions. Here you can boost zoom up to a maximum 10.5x when shooting at below 3 megapixels. There are also other steps in between such as 8.4x zoom at 5 megapixels.
You also have access to a high speed burst mode. This can capture up to 10 frames per second at the full 14 megapixels resolution. There are not many digital cameras around that can do this.
Movie mode is advanced as well. A resolution of 1080p is available. This beats the 720p on offer from most digital cameras. The Lumix DMC FX700 is also one of the few digital cameras to be able to record sound in stereo. You can also zoom in and out while shooting a movie.
