The Panasonic DMC FX40 is a pocket camera with a wide angle lens. It has 12 megapixels and offers 5x zoom. One of the advantages of having so many megapixels is that Panasonic has added a feature called extra zoom. This can increase the amount of zoom available to you if you reduce the resolution. For example if you shoot at 5 megapixels nearly 8x zoom becomes available.

The DMC FX40 offers a High Definition movie mode. This allows you to play back your movie clips on a HD television as long as you purchase an additional cable.

Panasonic tends to offer one or two extra features with this type of camera that you do not always see on other brands. These include image stabilisation, automatic red eye correction and an extensive range of predetermined scene modes.

The DMC FX40 sits somewhere in the mid range of pocket cameras. Despite the extra features the camera remains easy enough to use and is suitable for anyone looking for a standard point and shoot camera.
