The big attraction of the Olympus SP-800UZ is the 30x wide angle lens. This gives the SP-800UZ a focal length equivalent to 28 – 840mm in 35mm format. This gives you a great amount of flexibility as the camera is able to capture the majority of photo opportunities.

Typical applications include sports photography, wildlife photography and landscape photography. For fast moving subjects the camera is also capable of capturing shots at a rate of 10 frames per second. The only drawback with this is that the camera has to be set to a resolution of 3 megapixels to achieve this speed. AF tracking helps to create sharply focused shots of moving targets too.

As you would expect with a digital camera with this length of lens image stabilisation has been built in to help guard against blur caused by camera shake.

Standard features include 14 megapixels and a 3 inch LCD screen. Unlike the majority of digital cameras of this type there is no viewfinder available.

Storage is provided by 1.8gb of built in memory for photos and movies. The SP-800UZ is also compatible with SD and SDHC memory cards. To help you find photos Olympus has included a feature that allows you to tag and group your photos.

Another feature worth mentioning is the ability to charge the SP-800UZ by attaching it to a computer USB port.
