Although the Olympus FE-5000 offers the attractions of lower price and ease of use it has one or two extra features you do not always find on an entry level model. For a start the camera has image stabilisation. Next up is a good sized 2.7 inch LCD screen. The 5x optical zoom lens is also a little longer than standard. Olympus has given the FE-5000 a metal body too, rather than the more common plastic you often find in this price bracket.
Standard features include 10 megapixels, face detection for better portraits and the normal array of pre programmed scene modes.
At a shade over 25mm you may find the FE-5000 will fit into most pockets, but it can be a squeeze if the pocket is on the small side.
The camera scores highly for ease of use and is likely to appeal to someone who is looking for a digital camera that is relatively straightforward and will not break the bank.
