Overview
The Olympus EP-1 is a cross between a compact digital camera and a Digital SLR. When you use a lens adapter it becomes compatible with ZUIKO and OM lenses like Olympus Digital SLRs. The main difference between the EP-1 and a Digital SLR is that the EP-1 does not have a mirror. The big advantage of this is that it radically reduces the size of the camera. The sensor size is equivalent to Four Thirds cameras and this helps to ensure good picture quality.
When it comes to design Olympus has introduced a retro look, basing the camera on a similar style dating back to the 1950s. It has a metal finish and is available in two colours.
The EP-1 has a 12 megapixel sensor. Image stabilisation has been built into the body, so you do not need to buy lenses with stabilisation built into them.
The camera has dimensions of 120.5 x 70 x 35mm without protrusions and weighs 335g without batteries or a memory card.
Other points of interest include live view, a 3 inch LCD screen, the ability to capture raw images, a top shooting speed of 3 frames per second, plus aspect ratios of 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and 6:6. Another attraction of the EP-1 is its ability to capture High Definition movies.
