Overview

The Olympus E-5 is a professional level Digital SLR. Key features include 12 megapixels and an 11 point Auto Focus system. The body of the camera is made out of magnesium alloy and is both splashproof and dustproof.

Olympus has added a vari angle LCD screen to the E-5. This means that you can pull out the screen and twist it round to suit the angle you are shooting at. You are likely to find this feature very useful if you are shooting at awkward angles. The screen has 921,000 pixels and is 3 inches in size. As well as being able to use the LCD screen for composing your photos you can choose to use the viewfinder. It has 100% coverage with 1.15x magnification.

Another plus point is that Olympus have built image stabilisation into the camera body. The advantage of this is that you do not need to pay a premium for image stabilisation each time you buy a lens.

A depth of field preview button is likely to come in handy when you want to check the areas of your shots that are in focus. Other features include the ability to merge up to four images into a single image and a set of art filters to give your photos a different look.

As with other high end Digital SLRs, Olympus have equipped the E-5 with the ability to shoot High Definition movies.
