Overview

The Nikon D7000 is a 16 megapixel Digital SLR. The D7000 is a mid priced Digital SLR and is aimed at someone who takes photography quite serious as a hobby. This type of camera is also used by some semi professional photographers.

Key features include a 3 inch LCD screen and the ability to shoot at speeds of up to 6 frames per second for up to 100 shots. Nikon have equipped the D7000 with 39 Auto Focus points. This includes 9 cross type points.

The camera body is sturdy with magnesium alloy top and rear covers to help protect the D7000 from rain and dust.

Images can be stored in RAW (Nikon refers to RAW files as NEFF) and jpeg. There are slots for two memory cards. This gives you the ability to store jpeg and RAW files on separate cards. Alternatively you can set up one of the cards to store movie clips and the other still images.

When you place the D7000 in movie mode you can shoot Full High Definition movies at 1080p resolution. There is a jack for an external stereo microphone. The maximum length of a movie is 20 minutes.

Other useful features that Nikon have added include ISO ratings between 100 and 6400. This can be extended to ISO 25,600. At that level you should be able to take photos in very dark conditions. There is also a horizontal indicator to help you get horizons level. You can also save you favourite settings in the two custom modes available to you.
