The Nikon Coolpix S8100 specification suggests a digital camera that is high on quality. Although the Coolpix S8100 retains the ease of use of a point and shoot digital camera there are some advanced features available that you do not always find on this type of compact model.

Nikon have used a CMOS sensor for the Coolpix S8100. That in itself may not mean very much to you. The big advantage is that it allows for some high speed options. These include being able to fire off a series of shots at up to 5 frames per second. There is also a high speed movie mode. This mode is capable of shooting movie footage at a speed of 240 frames per second. This type of footage can then be played back in slow motion. So if you have ever wanted to analyse your golf swing the Coolpix S8100 could help you to do it.

As well as the high speed movie mode you are also able to shoot High Definition movies. These can be recorded at an impressive resolution of 1080i. Another couple of movie features Nikon have included are the ability to record stereo sound and you can also take a still image while shooting a movie.

The LCD screen is 3 inches in size. The screen has a resolution of 921,000 pixels. This is a high level of resolution and suggests a screen offering extra clarity over digital cameras with lower resolution screens.

Other features include 12 megapixels, a 10x optical zoom lens and image stabilisation. There is also a smile shutter to capture a shot if the Coolpix S8100 detects someone is smiling and a skin softening option to help you produce great portraits.
