The Nikon Coolpix S610 is a 10 megapixel digital camera with a wide angle 4x optical zoom lens. During Autumn 2008 a number of digital cameras have been introduced to stores with very similar features. For example wide angle lenses have become far more commonplace. The majority of cameras introduced at this time by the leading brands such as Nikon, have at least 10 megapixels.

This large number of megapixels not only lets you make poster sized prints, but also opens up the possibility of cropping photos and still having an image large enough to make a print from.

It looks like the Coolpix S610 is being aimed at families with younger children. It has a number of modes that can be used to help you take great children's portraits. These include an Active Child mode. When you select this mode the Coolpix S610 is quick to focus on moving subjects like a child running around. There is also a smile shutter that will automatically fire off a snapshot if it detects someone smiling. On top of this there is a blink detection setting that will give a warning if someone was blinking when the photo was taken. This gives you the chance to re shoot the picture.
