The Nikon Coolpix L18 is about as simple as digital cameras come. This is the entry level model in the Nikon range. It has 8 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom lens. The body of the camera is made from plastic.
As is typical of this type of digital camera, power is supplied by two AA batteries. Nikon have built a small amount of storage into the Coolpix L18. This is enough for you to fire off a few quick test shots, but you will soon find you need to switch to a memory card. The Coolpix L18 is compatible with SD and SDHC memory cards.
There are one or two more advanced features on offer. These include an automatic red eye fix. With this feature the Coolpix L18 attempts to detect any red eye in a portrait shot taken with flash and clean it up. Next is D Lighting. This is something that can be applied to a darker photo after it has been taken. The idea is that it lightens the photo.
