The Nikon Coolpix P7100 has many of the features you would expect to find in a Digital SLR, but in a much smaller body size. Starting off with more straightforward features the Coolpix P7100 has 10 megapixels and a 7x optical zoom lens. The lens has wide angle capabilities. The Coolpix P7100 gives you access to a full set of manual exposure controls (fully manual, aperture priority and shutter priority).
When it comes to picture composition Nikon have given you the choice between a 3 inch LCD screen and an optical viewfinder. The LCD screen has a much higher resolution than most digital cameras have. This should offer much greater clarity for viewing.
Image stabilisation has been built in to help combat picture blur caused by camera shake. You can also capture images in RAW format. This presents you with extra option if you plan on carrying out post production with packages such as Photoshop.
The largest aperture the Coolpix P7100 offers is f/2.8. You also have plenty of control over shutter speeds with a 60 second delay being available in manual mode. For close up work there is a macro setting that can focus from 2cm away from your subject.
Nikon have equipped the Coolpix P7100 with a movie mode that allows you to shoot High Definition movies with a maximum resolution of 720p.
