The Canon Powershot SX40 HS offers you extreme zoom power with a 35x optical zoom lens. The Powershot SX40 HS has a wide range of advanced features. This camera is likely to appeal to you if you see photography as a hobby. This is especially the case if you are interested in types of photography such as wildlife and sports where the power of the lens can get you in close when you are shooting distant subjects.
As well as being ideal for zooming in the lens also offers wide angle capabilities with a focal length equivalent to 24 – 840mm. A wide angle lens is important if you photograph wide scenes such as sweeping landscapes, buildings and groups of people.
The advanced features you can take advantage of include a set of manual exposure controls (fully manual, aperture priority and shutter priority). These give you extra control over the way your photos will look. There is also a burst mode that is capable of shooting at a top speed of 10.3 frames per second for a maximum of 8 shots.
Other features of note include a macro mode that is capable of focusing from right in front of the lens and bracketing. There is also a 2.7 inch vari-angle LCD screen. Vari angle means that you can pull the LCD screen away from the body of the Powershot SX40 HS and twist it round to a more comfortable shooting position. There is also an electronic viewfinder.
The movie mode is one of the most advanced you are likely to find. The Powershot SX40 HS is capable of capturing Full High Definition movies at a resolution of 1080i. Footage is recorded at 24 frames per second. You can also record sound in stereo.
Additional accessories you can buy for the Powershot SX40 HS include a filter adapter so that you can use 67mm filters. There is also a hot shoe that is compatible with Canon Speedlite Ex Flash units.
