The Canon Powershot G1 X is the flagship model in the Canon digital camera range. It is packed with features that you usually find on a Digital SLR and is used by many professional photographers as a second camera.
Starting off with the more basic features the Powershot G1 X has 14 megapixels and a 4x wide angle lens. The CMOS sensor is six times as large as previous models in the Canon G series. This should result in improved image quality.
The maximum lens aperture is f/2.8 and the focal length of the lens is equivalent to 28 – 112mm in 35mm format. For composing images there is a 3 inch LCD screen that you can pull away from the body of the camera and twist round to find a more comfortable shooting angle. In addition there is an optical viewfinder.
The Powershot G1 X has manual exposure controls (Fully Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority), plus two custom settings. For high speed shooting there is a burst mode that can fire off full resolution photos at a rate of 4.5 frames per second for 6 images. Canon have added a High Dynamic Range setting for bringing out extra detail in high contrast scenes. Your images can be stored in RAW format for later post processing. If you have a photo opportunity that requires slower shutter speeds you can activate a built in ND filter.
Canon have equipped the Powershot G1 X with a High Definition movie mode. Stereo sound can be recorded to go with your movies. Image stabilisation works for both still images and movie clips.
The size of the Powershot G1 X is noticeably larger than previous models in this series. The body is made out of metal with a stainless steel chassis.
