The Canon Powershot A800 is the starter digital camera in the Canon range. The emphasis has been placed on ease of use instead of packing the camera with all the latest features. Ease of use is further enhanced by the inclusion of a smart auto mode and larger than normal control buttons on the back of the Powershot A800. When you place the camera in smart auto mode the camera attempts to detect the type of scene you are looking to photograph and optimises the settings to take the best possible picture.

In order to keep the price down a few compromises have been made with this camera. These include a 2.5 inch LCD screen and a zoom lens offering 3.3x zoom. Although the 10 megapixels on offer is less than the current standard it is still plenty if you are looking to make typical snapshot sized prints of 4 x 6 inches or 5 x 7 inches.

Power is supplied by two AA batteries. In fact the Powershot A800 is one of an ever decreasing number of cameras to use this type of battery instead of the more popular lithium ion battery.

One noticeable feature is the macro mode. When you want to get in close for a shot the Powershot A800 is able to focus from 1cm away from the subject.
