For me the big attraction of the Canon IXUS 1000HD is the fact it offers 10x zoom in a body that is under 23mm wide. That is a lot of zoom in a true pocket sized digital camera. In addition to the extra zoom the IXUS 1000 HS boasts a number of other impressive features. As you might expect with this length of lens image stabilisation has been built in to help combat any blur caused by unsteady hands.
Looking through the features I would say the IXUS 1000 HS is aimed primarily at someone who would like a simple, highly portable digital camera. The simplicity is enhanced by the inclusion of hints and tips built into the IXUS 1000 HS to help you get the most out of the camera.
In movie mode the camera is capable of shooting High Definition quality footage. There is a further option that allows you to shoot clips to be played back in slow motion. The camera can also call upon image stabilisation when recording a movie.
For those of you who would like to be in the picture yourself Canon have incorporated technology to fire off a photo two seconds after someone winks at the camera.
