Overview
The Canon EOS 500D is aimed at the consumer market. It is seen as a possible upgrade route for anyone who already owns an earlier Digital SLR in this part of the Canon series or someone who is looking for a step up from a compact digital camera.
Looking through the features of the EOS 500D you can see how much the consumer level Digital SLRs have moved on over the last 18 months to 2 years. The most noticeable movements include the number of megapixels available (15) and the fact that Canon has included a movie mode that has the capability to record High Definition movies. The size of the LCD screens used has increased too. In the case of the EOS 500D there is a 3 inch screen. Live view is available so that you can compose your photos through the LCD screen in addition to using the viewfinder.
Other upgrades include a continuous shooting mode that can capture images at a rate of 3.4 frames per second for up to 170 jpegs. The top ISO setting of 3200 is expandable up to 12800. As is also becoming standard there is a built in cleaning system that attempts to keep dust away from the sensor of the EOS 500D
