Overview

The Canon EOS-ID Mark IV is aimed at high level professional photographers. Key features include a 45 point Auto Focus system with 39 f/2.8 sensitive cross-type points. With the ability to shoot at speeds of up to 10 frames per second the EOS-1D Mark IV is targeted at action, sports, news events and wildlife photographers.

As you might expect, to cope with the demands of the professional photographer out in the field the EOS-ID Mark IV has exceptional build quality and can stand up to some of the toughest conditions a photographer is likely to encounter.

Protection is provided by a full magnesium alloy body. It is water and dust resistant through the fitting of 76 rubber seals. There are subtle changes to previous models that help with usability too. These include the inclusion of reshaped buttons that are easier to operate in extreme conditions where a photographer may need to wear gloves. There is also a built in sensor cleaning system.

Another aid to sports and wildlife photographers is the 1.3x crop factor. This helps you to get closer to your subject while using lenses with shorter focal lengths.

The sensor has 16 megapixels. ISO can be set between 100 and 128,000. Further extension of the ISO range is available. This pushes availability to between ISO 50 and 102,400. These offer you extreme lowlight shooting options.

The 3 inch LCD screen is made up of 920,000 pixels.

The EOS-1D Mark IV can also double as a high quality video recorder. It is capable of shooting 1080p High Definition video at a rate of 30 frames per second. Fully manual operation is available too.

An integrated microphone gives you the option of recording notes for each photograph you take. There is also an option to embed copyright details into each image.
