The Sony DSC T20 is an eight megapixel camera with a three times optical zoom lens. The lens has a focal length equivalent to 38 - 114mm in 35mm format. Other zoom options include 5.1x HD Smart Zoom and 15x Smart Zoom. These are available at lower resolutions than the full 8 megapixels. 6x digital zoom is also available.
The DSC T20 has face detection focusing. This helps the camera to focus on faces. In macro mode the camera can focus from 1cm away from the subject.
The LCD screen is 2.5 inches in size. The screen is made up of around 230,000 pixels.
The flash modes available are Auto, Forced Flash, Slow Syncro and No Flash. Red eye reduction can be turned on and off through the menu. The maximum range of the flash unit is 3m. This falls to 2.5m when the zoom lens is in use.
There are a small number of preprogrammed scene modes. These are Twilight, Twilight portrait, Soft snap, Landscape, Beach, Snow, High-speed shutter and High Sensitivity.
The maximum resolution for movies is 640 x 480 pixels. The top speed is 30 frames per second. Sound can be recorded and zoom can be applying while recording is in progress.
Among the more advanced features are exposure compensation (+/-2.0 EV, 1/ 3 EV step), white balance (Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent1, Fluorescent2, Fluorescent3, Incandescent, Flash), metering (Multi Pattern, Centre weighted, Spot) and ISO sensitivity (Auto,80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200).
Shutter speeds are set automatically in the range 1/4 - 1000 seconds. There is also a burst mode allowing you to reel off up to 100 shots in quick succession.
As is now the standard with digital cameras Sony supplies all the necessary cables and software to connect the DSC T20 to a computer, compatible printer and television set.
