The Sony DSC H7 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 15x optical zoom lens. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 31 - 465mm in 35mm format.
Focusing options include manual focus and face detection. For close up shots the DSC H7 is capable of focusing from 1cm away from the subject.
The 2.5 inch LCD screen is made up of around 115,000 pixels. There is also an electronic viewfinder.
The range of the flash unit is an impressive 9.8m. The flash pops up on the top of the camera, reducing the possibility of red eye. You can select from the following flash modes: Auto, Forced Flash, Slow Syncro and No Flash. Red eye reduction can be turned on and off.
A selection of scene modes are available. These are: Twilight, Twilight portrait, Portrait, Landscape, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, High Sensitivity and Advanced Sports Shooting.
TV quality movies can be recorded. These have a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and a top speed of 30 frames per second. Sound can be recorded and zoom can be applied while recording is in progress.
Fully manual exposure, aperture priority and shutter priority are all available. Shutter speeds can be set in the range 30 - 1/4000 seconds. The maximum aperture is f2.7 (wide), f4.5 (tele).
Other Advanced features include ISO sensitivity (Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200), metering (multi point, centre weighted and spot), white balance (Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent1, Fluorescent2, Fluorescent3, Incandescent, Flash, One push) and exposure compensation (+/-2.0 EV, 1/ 3 EV step).
A burst mode allows you to fire off up to 100 rapid shots.
All the necessary cables and software are supplied to attach the Sony DSC H7 to a computer, television set and compatible printer.

| Verdict: | This camera has a lot of good points. If I was looking for a super zoom camera this one would certainly make my short list. It was able to produce very fast shutter response times and includes a number of more advanced features. |
