The Panasonic DMC LZ8 is a 8 megapixel digital camera with a 5x optical zoom lens. Zoom can be increased to 8x when shooting at the lowest resolutions. 4x digital zoom is also available

The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 32 - 160mm in 35mm format.

The built in flash unit has a maximum range of 6.8m when the zoom is not being used. This reduces to 3.8m when the zoom lens is in use. The flash modes are Auto, Auto/Red-eye Reduction, Forced On, Slow Sync./Red-eye Reduction and Forced Off.

The scene modes available to you are: Portrait, Scenery, Sports, Night Portrait, Self-Portrait, Food, Party, Candle Light, Sunset, Baby1, Baby2, Fireworks, Starry Sky, Beach, Aerial photo, Snow, High Sensitivity, Pet and Hi-Speed Burst.

Panasonic are one of the only brands to offer a special widescreen television, movie mode (resolution 848 x 480 pixels). Sound can be recorded. The top recording speed is 30 frames per second and zoom can be applied before recording starts.
