Megapixels and Zoom
The Panasonic DMC FZ18 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a long 18x optical zoom lens. The lens is a wide angle lens and has a focal length equivalent to 28 - 504mm in 35mm format.
The amount of zoom can be increased even further if you are shooting at lower resolutions. For example zoom can be increased to 23x if shooting at 5 megapixels.
4x digital zoom is also available.
Basics
- Self timer with a 2 or 10 second delay

Focusing
Manual focusing is available. In macro mode the DMC FZ18 can focus from just 1cm away from the subject.
LCD
The 2.5 inch LCD screen is made up of 230,000 pixels. An electronic viewfinder is also available.
Flash
The flash modes available are: Auto, Auto/Red-eye Reduction, Forced On, Slow Sync./Red-eye Reduction and Forced Off.
Scene Modes
You can choose from the following scene modes: Portrait mode (Normal, Soft Skin, Outdoor, Indoor, Creative), Scenery mode (Normal, Nature, Architecture, Creative), Sports mode (Sports mode : Normal, Outdoor, Indoor, Creative), Night Portrait mode (Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Illuminations, Creative).
Movies
You can zoom in and out before recording a movie, but not while recording is in progress. There is a special resolution for shooting wide angle movies (848 x 480 pixels). The top speed is 30 frames per second and sound can be recorded.
In playback mode you can also capture a still image from a movie.
Advanced Features
Fully manual exposure, aperture priority, shutter priority and a custom exposure mode are all available. The aperture can be set in the range (Wide: F2.8 - F8.0 Tele:F4.2 - F8.0). Shutter speeds can be set in a range between 8 seconds and 1/2000 seconds.
Other advanced settings include white balance (Auto / Daylight / Cloudy / Shade / Halogen / White Set), exposure compensation (1/3 EV step, +/-2 EV), bracketing (+/- 1/3 EV), metering (Intelligent Multiple/ Center Weighted/ Spot) and sensitivity (Auto / 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 / 1250 / 1600).
Burst modes and continuous shooting are also available as is backlight compensation.
Images can also be stored in RAW format.
Computer - Printers - Television
All the cables and software are supplied to attach the DMC FZ18 to a television set, computer and compatible printer.
