The Panasonic DMC FX37 is a 10 megapixel digital camera with a 5x optical zoom. If you are prepared to shoot at a lower resolution then extra zoom becomes available. The maximum zoom is 8.9x if you are shooting at 3 megapixels. 4x digital zoom is a further option for increasing zoom.

The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 25 - 125mm in 35mm format. The lens aperture works in the range Wide: F2.8 - F8.0 Tele: F5.9 - F8.

The LCD monitor is 2.5 inches in size. The screen is made up of around 230,000 dots. I found the screen easy to see in sunlight.

The flash modes are: Auto, Auto/Red-eye Reduction, On, Off and Slow Sync./Red-eye Reduction. The maximum flash range is 6m. This falls to 2.8m when the zoom lens is fully extended.

There are a number of preset scene modes. These are: Portrait, Soft Skin, Transform, Self-Portrait, Scenery, Sports, Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Food, Party, Candle Light, Baby1, Baby2, Pet, Sunset, High sensitivity, Underwater, Starry Sky, Fireworks, Beach, Snow, Aerial photo, Hi-Speed Burst, Flash-Burst, Film Grain, Pin Hole

You can shoot High Definition movies with a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The top recording speed is 30 frames per second. Sound can be recorded and zoom can be applied before shooting starts.

All the necessary cables and software are supplied to attach the Panasonic DMC FX37 to a computer, television set and compatible printer.

Verdict:	Picture quality does not hit the usual high standards I am used to seeing from a Panasonic digital camera. That is a shame as other features such as HD quality movies, a wide angle lens, plus ease of use are all positive points.
