Megapixels and Zoom
The Olympus 850 SW is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 38 - 114mm in 35mm format. The maximum aperture is f/3.5 - f5. 5x digital zoom is also available.

Focusing
In macro mode the closest focusing distance is 7cm. All other focusing controls are automatic.
LCD
The LCD screen is 2.5 inches in size and is made up of around 230,000 pixels.
Flash
The inbuilt flash unit has a working range of 5.3m when zoom is not being used. When the zoom is fully extended this falls to 3.7m. The flash modes are automatic, red eye reduction, always on and always off.
Scene Modes
There is a wide selection of scene modes available. These are: Portrait, Landscape, Landscape with Portrait, Night Scene, Night Scene with portrait, Sports, Indoor, Candle, Self-portrait, Available Light Portrait, Sunset, Fireworks, Cuisine, Behind Glass, Documents, Auction, Shoot & Select 1, Shoot & Select 2, Beach and Snow, Pre-Capturing Movie, Underwater Snapshot, Underwater Wide 1, Underwater Wide 2 and Underwater Macro.
Image Editing
A number of image editing features become available after a photo has been taken. These include colour change (Black & White, Sepia), Correction of saturation, Red-eye reduction and Shadow Adjustment. Short sound memos can also be added to photos.
Movies
Movies with sound can be recorded at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The maximum recording speed is 30 frames per second. As with most digital cameras zoom can only be applied before recording starts.
Advanced Features
Although the MJU 850 SW is primarily a point and shoot camera it does have a small number of more advanced controls. These are metering (multi point and spot), exposure compensation (+/- 2 EV / 1/3 steps), ISO (ISO 64, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600) and white balance (Sunlight, Tungsten, Overcast, Flourescent 1, Flourescent 2 and Flourescent 3).
Shutter speeds are set automatically by the camera in the range 4 seconds to 1/1000 seconds.
A burst mode allows you to shoot up to 6 frames within one second (maximum speed).
Computer - Printers - Television
All the necessary cables and software are supplied to attach the Olympus MJU 850 SW to a computer, television set and compatible printer.
