Overview
The Olympus MJU 7010 offers some extra zoom over and above a lot of smaller compact cameras. It has a 7x, wide angle lens. When it comes to features this is a fairly typical point and shoot camera. Features such as image stabilisation mean it is a step up from the most basic models, but aside from that the MJU 7010 has a fairly standard set of features.
Olympus has equipped the camera with a 2.7 inch LCD screen. It is compatible with both xD and Micro SD memory cards. There are a few fun features thrown in such as the ability to transform your photos into sketches or pop art.
Why Buy The Olympus MJU 7010
The main attraction of this camera is likely to be the extra zoom compared to a lot of other small cameras.

Outdoor Scenic Shots in Good Light
Outdoor 1 (Medium Zoom):
The colours produced by the MJU 7010 are more low key than I am used to seeing. The level of detail in the shot is good, but there is a hint of noise creeping in areas of light shade.
Outdoor 2 (No Zoom):
The lighter colours in this shot are probably a fairer reflection of the way the scene looks to the eye when the picture is taken. Other cameras tend to boost the vividness of the colour. This is a fairly standard effort when it comes to sharpness.
Outdoor 3 (Maximum Zoom):
When the lens is zoomed in to its full capacity the camera is able to take a decent snapshot. Sharpness is good enough for making reasonably sized prints.
Outdoor 4 (Building):
The MJU 7010 is mid division when it comes to sharpness. In this photo focusing starts to soften slightly as you move away from the centre of the photo.
Portraits
Outdoor Portrait:
I would like to have seen a bit more brightness in this shot. It is darker than most of my outdoor portrait shots. Other than that point the MJU 7010 focuses well enough.
Indoor Portrait with Flash:
As with the outdoor portrait I would liked to have seen a bit more light in this shot. There are areas in the hair where the light does not really reach. This leaves them quite dark and lacking in detail.
Indoor Portrait without Flash:
I like this shot. Noise is kept under control considering the lighting conditions. For most indoor portrait shots you will need to use flash, but you should also be able to produce some pleasing portraits using window light.
Macro and Colours
I have no complaints about my macro shot. It is a decent effort for a small compact digital camera.
Compared to other camera I found the colours lacked a bit of vitality. In fairness all the outdoor shots were taken on cold winter days and this helps to explain a lack of a warm feel to some of the photos.
Summary
Nothing too exciting maybe, but at the same time I did not find any issues to really put me off the MJU 7010.
Style
The MJU 7010 looks a little different from most cameras of this size. This is because the lens unit stands out on the front of the camera. You can select from starry, silver, candy pink and titanium grey models.

Where it Could Improve
A touch of extra brightness in the photos.
Verdict
I would describe the Olympus MJU 7010 as a standard compact camera offering that bit extra zoom. Not every camera can stand out for the crowd and I would say this camera is good enough without being anything special.

Panasonic DMC FS30 Rating 85/100
I really like this camera. It offers some extra zoom and takes excellent snaps. I found it easy to use and struggled to find anything I did not like about it. If you are looking for a smaller compact camera with some extra zoom then this one is a good choice.

Pentax Optio i-10 Rating 79/100
The Optio i-10 looks radically different to other digital cameras. It has a design based on vintage SLRs. In my tests I found more distant shots lacked sharpness. Aside from the design the features included in this camera are fairly standard.
