Megapixels and Zoom
The Nikon Coolpix S200 is a seven megapixel camera with a three times optical zoom lens. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 38 - 114mm in 35mm format. 4x digital zoom is also available.
Basics
- Image stabilisation
- Voice recording
- Colour modes - vivid, black and white, sepia, cyanotype.
Focusing
For close up work the Coolpix S200 can focus from 10cm away from the subject. Face detection focusing is also available.
LCD
The LCD screen is 2.5" in size. I found the screen handled sun glare well. There is no viewfinder.
Flash
The built in flash unit has a maximum range of 5.4m. This falls to 2.8m when the zoom lens is fully extended.
Scene Modes
The scene modes you can use are portrait, landscape, sports, night portrait, party/indoors, beach/snow, sunset, dusk/dawn, night landscape, close up, museum, fireworks and back light. When you use a scene mode the Coolpix S200 will use what it believes to be the optimum settings for the shot.
Playback
After a photo has been taken, you can add a short voice memo to it. If a photo is too dark you can increase the amount of light.
Movies
Movies can be recorded with sound. Zoom is available while recording is progress. TV quality movies can be captured at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and at a maximum speed of 30 frames per second.
Advanced Features
Among the more advanced features are exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity (50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1000, Auto (auto gain ISO 50-800)), continuous shooting and white balance (custom, daylight, incandescent, fluorescent, cloudy, flash), best shot selector and multi shot 16. Multi shot 16 takes sixteen shots and builds them into a grid like single image.
Time lapse movies can also be created. These are where single shots are taken at predefined intervals. These are often used for depicting a flower opening or clouds moving across the sky.
Computer - Printers - Television
All the necessary cables and software are provided to connect the Nikon Coolpix S200 to a computer, television set and compatible computer.
