The Nikon Coolpix P60 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 5x optical zoom lens. The 5x optical zoom lens has a focal length equivalent to 36 - 180mm in 35mm format. 4x digital zoom is also available.

You can manually select the focusing area and there is also a face priority setting for sharper portraits. For close up shots the Coolpix P60 can focus from 10cm away from the subject.

The LCD screen is 2.5 inches in size and is made up of around 153,000 pixels. There is also an electronic viewfinder.

The built in flash unit has a maximum range of 5.1m. The flash modes are on, off, automatic, red eye reduction and slow sync.

There are options to create differing effects. These are softer, vivid, more vivid, portrait, and black and white. You can adjust levels for contrast, sharpness and saturation.

The scene modes you can use are: Portrait, Night Portrait, Sports, Landscape, Party, Beach/Snow, Sunset, Dusk/Dawn, Night Landscape, Museum and Fireworks Show.

Movies can be recorded at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and at a top speed of 30 frames per second. Sound can be recorded. Optical zoom can be applied before shooting starts. When shooting is in progress only digital zoom can be applied.

There is also a manual exposure mode. This allows you to set the shutter speed between 8 seconds and 1/1200 seconds. The aperture can be switched between f/3.6 - f8.5 wide and f/4.5 - f/10.9 tele.

Verdict:	This camera is a step up from a basic point and shoot camera. It takes a good scenic shot and also has an impressive build quality. Nikon have also found room to squeeze in a viewfinder.
