Nikon Coolpix P5000 Features

Nikon Coolpix P5000 The Nikon COOLPIX P5000 is an ten megapixel digital camera. It has a 3.5 times zoom lens. 4x digital zoom is another option available to you.

The lens has a focal length equivalent to 36 - 126mm in 35mm format. The maximum lens aperture is f/2.7 - 5.3.

Basics

There are a variety of resolutions you can choose from. These include special resolutions for displaying your photos on a widescreen television and for producing 6 x 4" prints.

A self timer is built into the camera. You can choose between delay times of three seconds and ten seconds.

Image stabilisation is also available.

There is a menu option called image optimiser. This allows you to change colour, including black and white and also use a special portrait enhancing setting.

There is also a special face priority setting. This helps the camera to focus on faces for single or group portraits.

The Coolpix P5000 can also be used as a voice recorder.

You can choose between a text based menu system or an icon based menu system.

Focusing

In macro mode the Coolpix P5000 can focus from 4cm away from the subject.

LCD

In addition to the optical viewfinder there is a 2.5" LCD screen. This is made up of around 230,000 pixels.

Flash

The flash modes are Auto, Auto with red-eye reduction (In-Camera Red-Eye Fix), Anytime flash, Flash cancel, and Slow sync. The maximum range of the flash unit is 8m.

Scene Modes

There are a range of preset scene modes. This helps the camera to identify the best settings to be used for the shot. The scenes available are: Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Night Portrait, Party/indoor, Beach/Snow, Sunset, Dusk/Dawn, Night Landscape, Close up, Museum, Fireworks show, Copy, Back Light, Panorama Assist.

Movies

When you shoot a movie zoom is available and sound can be captured. The maximum resolution is 640 x 480 pixels and the top speed is 30 frames per second. You can also shoot sepia movies at a lower resolution.

Advanced Features

Advanced features include ISO (Auto, 64, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, 3200), white balance (auto, white balance preset, daylight, incandescent, florescent, cloudy, flash), metering (Metering matrix, center weighted, spot, spot AF area), exposure compensation and bracketing.

In manual mode you can set the shutter speed in the range 8 seconds to 1/2000 seconds. The aperture can be set in the range f2.7 - f7.6.

The camera has a continuous shooting setting. The maximum speed the Coolpix P5000 can shoot at in this mode is 0.8 frames per second. There is also an interval timer. This fires off single photos at predetermined intervals. The delay time between shots can be set between 30 seconds and 60 minutes.

You can also make use of a best shot selector. When you turn this feature on the camera will capture a number of simultaneous photos. It will then select the photo it considers to be the best and then deletes the remaining shots.

Computer - Printers - Television

Cables and software are supplied to connect the camera to a compatible printer, television set and computer.

Extras

Both wide and telephoto lenses converters can be purchased to increase the focal range of the Coolpix P5000. You can also buy a speedlight to increase the flash capabilities. Nikon Coolpix P5000
