The Nikon Coolpix is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 35 - 105mm in 35mm format. The minimum lens aperture is f2.8 - f4.7. 4x digital zoom is available too.

The scene modes you can select from are: Portrait, Night Portrait, Sports, Landscape, Party, Beach/Snow, Sunset, Dusk/Dawn, Night Landscape, Museum and Close Up.

You can capture TV quality movies at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and a top speed of 30 frames per second. Sound is recorded and optical zoom can be applied prior to recording.

More advanced settings you have access to are: white balance (Fluorescent, Incandescent, Flash, White Balance Preset, Auto, Daylight and Cloudy) and exposure compensation (Plus or minus 2 EV in steps of 1/3).

Continuous shooting until the memory card is full is available. The maximum speed is 1.3 frames per second. There is also a multi shot feature. This allows you to capture 16 mini images as a single image grid.

Cables and software are included in the box to connect the Nikon Coolpix L18 to a television, compatible printer and computer.

Verdict:	"A great camera when it comes to ease of use, but I have to admit to being disappointed with both the picture quality I managed to produce from this camera and also the shutter lag times. In my opinion there are better digital cameras around for a similar price."
