The Casio Exilim EX-Z77 is a 7 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. It also has 4x digital zoom. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to approx. 38 to 114mm in 35mm format. The maximum aperture is F3.1 (W) to F5.9 (T).
As well as the standard auto focus settings you also have access to manual focus and pan focus. A face detection setting is also available. In macro mode the Exilim EX-Z77 is able to focus from 10cm away from the subject.
The LCD screen is 2.6" in size and is made up of 114,960 pixels. You can display key menu options down the right hand side of the screen making them easier to access and change.
The built in flash unit has a maximum range of 3.5m (wide) and 1.9m (wide). Flash modes are Auto, Flash On, Flash Off, Soft Flash and Red Eye Reduction.
The scene modes are known as Best Shot on the Exilim EX-Z77. The list of available scenes is: portrait, scenery, portrait with scenery, children, sports, candlelight portrait, party, pet, flower, natural green, autumn leaves, soft flowing water, splashing water, sundown, night scene, night scene portrait, fireworks, food, text, collection, auction, backlight, anti shake, high sensitivity, underwater, monochrome, retro, twilight, layout, layout 2, auto framing, ID photo, old photo, business cards and documents, whiteboard and custom.
Movies with sound can be recorded. There is a special setting for widescreen TV movies. The maximum resolution is 848 x 480 pixels and the camera has a top recording speed of 30 frames per second. As with a number of digital cameras zoom can be applied before recording starts, but not while you are actually shooting the movie.
There is also a special setting for shooting movies that can be uploaded to YouTube.
More advanced features include exposure compensation (-2EV to +2EV (in 1/3EV steps)), white balance (auto, sunny, cloudy, shady, fluorescent night, fluorescent day, tungsten and custom), metering (Multi-pattern, centre weighted, spot by imaging element) and sensitivity (Auto, ISO 50, 100, 200, 400, 800).
Shutter speeds are set automatically by the camera in the range 4 to 1/2000 seconds. Continuous shooting is also available.
All the necessary cables and software are supplied to connect the camera to a compatible printer, television and computer.
