The Casio Exilim EX-Z280 is a 12 megapixel digital camera with a 4x optical zoom lens. The lens has a focal length equivalent to 26 - 104mm in 35mm format. This gives the Exilim EX-Z280 wide angle capabilities. 4x digital zoom is available too.

As smaller digital cameras go the Exilim EX-Z280 has a fairly standard set of features. As with most Casio digital cameras it has a wide range of preset scene modes. Image stabilisation is available and you can also shoot High definition movies.

Focusing Options include: auto focus, macro mode, pan focus, infinity mode and manual focus. In macro mode the Exilim EX-Z280 can focus from 5cm away from the subject.

The LCD monitor is 2.7 inches in size. The screen is made up of around 230,400 dots. You can opt to display key menu options down the right hand side of the screen.

The flash modes are: Auto, Flash On, Flash Off, Soft Flash, Red Eye Reduction

There are a number of preset scene modes. These are: dynamic portrait, portrait, scenery, portrait with scenery, self portrait, self portrait (two people), children, sports, candlelight portrait, party, pet, flower, natural green, autumn leaves, soft flowing water, splashing water, sundown, night scene, night scene portrait, fireworks, food, text, collection, auction, backlight, high sensitivity, monochrome, retro, twilight, multi motion image, ID photo, business cards and documents and whiteboard.

You can shoot High Definition movies with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The top recording speed is 24 frames per second in High Definition mode. Sound can be recorded and zoom can be applied before shooting starts. Up to 10 minutes of video can be captured. You can also shoot old fashioned, silent movies. In addition there is a pre record movie feature and one that allows easy upload to YouTube.

All the necessary cables and software are supplied to attach the Casio Exilim EX-Z280 to a computer, television set and compatible printer.

Verdict:	When it comes to picture quality the Casio Exilim EX-Z280 does not match up to the best digital cameras in this category. It is not one of the most expensive, but even so I think there is better value elsewhere.
