The Casio Exilim EX-S880 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. The lens has a focal length equivalent to 38 - 114mm in 35mm format. Aperture size is controlled automatically in the range f2.7 - 8 (wide) f/5.2 - 8 (tele). 4x digital zoom is available too.
There are a number of focusing options including pan focusing and manual focusing. In macro mode the camera can focus from 15cm away from the subject. There is also a special setting for face detection focusing when you would like to take a portrait shot.
The LCD screen is 2.8" in size and is made up of 230,400 pixels. You can display key menu options down the right hand side of the screen making them easier to access and change.
The range of the flash unit is 3.9m. This falls to 2m when the zoom lens is in use. The flash modes are Auto, Flash On, Flash Off, Soft Flash and Red Eye Reduction. Flash intensity can be adjusted.
The scene modes are known as Best Shot on the Exilim EX-S880. The list of available scenes is: portrait, scenery, portrait with scenery, children, sports, candlelight portrait, party, pet, flower, natural green, autumn leaves, soft flowing water, splashing water, sundown, night scene, night scene portrait, fireworks, food, text, collection, auction, backlight, anti shake, high sensitivity, monochrome, retro, twilight, layout, layout 2, auto framing, old photo, business cards and documents, whiteboard and custom.
Widescreen movies can be shot at a maximum resolution of 848 x 480 pixels. Sound can be recorded, but zoom can only be applied before you start to record the movie.
There is also special movie mode setting to take videos that can be uploaded to You Tube.
Among the more advanced features are metering (Multi-pattern, centre weighted, spot by imaging element), exposure compensation (-2EV to +2EV (in 1/3EV steps)) sensitivity (Auto, ISO 64, 100, 200, 400, 800), white balance (auto, sunshine, cloudy, shade, fluorescent 1, fluorescent 2, tungsten and manual) and continuous shooting (normal speed, high speed, rapid flash).
Shutter speeds are set automatically by the camera. These work in the range of 4 seconds (in night mode) - 1/2000 seconds.
You can store documents such as spreadsheets and word documents in the camera. They are saved as Jpeg files. In order to do this you need to connect the camera to a computer.
All the necessary cables and software are supplied to connect the camera to a compatible printer, television and computer.

| Verdict: | This camera scores well for its small size and ease of use. I did find the camera struggles with focusing once you get any real distance in the shot. It was able to handle closer subjects better. It is an incredibly slim camera. |
