The Canon Powershot SX120 IS is a 10 megapixel digital camera with a 10x optical zoom lens. Zoom can be increased when shooting at lower resolutions. 4x digital zoom is also available. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 36 - 360mm in 35mm format.

This camera has additional features compared to most models of this type. These include a set of manual exposure controls. What is missing? The Powershot SX120 IS only has a standard definition movie mode.

The LCD monitor is 3 inches in size. The screen is made up of around 230,000 dots. I found the screen easy to see in sunlight.

The flash modes are: automatic, on and off. You can also apply slow sync speed and red eye reduction. In addition flash exposure compensation and flash exposure lock are available. You can also adjust the intensity of the flash.

The maximum flash range is 4m. This falls to 2.5m when the zoom lens is fully extended. To increase the range of the flash unit you can buy an external flash - the Canon High Power Flash HF-DC1.

There are a number of preset scene modes. These are: Portrait, Landscape, Night Snapshot, Kids and Pets, Indoor, Night Scene, Sunset, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks and Aquarium.

You can shoot movies with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The top recording speed is 30 frames per second. Sound can be recorded and zoom can be applied before shooting starts.

• Manual Focusing

All the necessary cables and software are supplied to attach the Canon Powershot SX120 IS to a computer, television set and compatible printer.

Verdict:	In terms of picture quality this camera is difficult to beat in its class. It has a good range of features too. If this was the type of camera I was looking for I would be happy to own this model. Recommended.
