The Canon Powershot SX110 IS is a 9 megapixel digital camera with a 10x optical zoom. If you are prepared to shoot at a lower resolution extra zoom becomes available. 4x digital zoom is a further option for increasing zoom.

The LCD monitor is 3 inches in size. The screen is made up of around 230,000 dots. I found the screen easy to see in sunlight.

The flash modes are: automatic, on and off. You can also apply slow sync speed and red eye reduction. In addition flash exposure compensation and flash exposure lock are available. You can also adjust the intensity of the flash.

The maximum flash range is 3m. This falls to 2m when the zoom lens is fully extended. To increase the range of the flash unit you can buy an external flash - the Canon High Power Flash HF-DC1.

There are a number of preset scene modes. These are: Portrait, Landscape, Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Indoor, Night Scene, Sunset, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks and Aquarium

You can shoot movies with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The top recording speed is 30 frames per second. Sound can be recorded and zoom can be applied before shooting starts.

All the necessary cables and software are supplied to attach the Canon Powershot SX110 IS to a computer, television set and compatible printer.

Verdict:	The Powershot SX110 IS earns top marks. It delivers extra zoom in a compact body, with a pleasing design. It performed well in my tests and would be up near the top of my shortlist if I was looking for this type of camera.
