Canon Powershot G11 Features

Canon Powershot G11 The Canon Powershot G11 is an advanced digital camera. It has manual exposure settings, plus manual focusing. Images can be captured in RAW and there is a 2.8 inch LCD screen that pulls out away from the body and can be twisted round.

The Powershot G11 has 10 megapixels and a 5x wide angle zoom lens. The focal length of the lens is equivalent to 28 - 140mm in 35mm format. 4x digital zoom is also available.

Basics

LCD Screen and Viewfinder

The Powershot G11 is one of what is now a very small number of compact digital cameras to offer an optical viewfinder.

The LCD monitor is 2.8 inches in size. The screen is made up of around 461,000 dots. I found the screen to have excellent definition and was very easy to view. The screen can be pulled away from the body and twisted round to give comfortable viewing when photographing at awkward angles.

Flash

The Powershot G11 gives you a number of options for controlling flash. These include modes of Auto, Manual Flash On / Off , slow sync speed (Fastest speed 1/2000 sec.) Red-Eye Reduction, Flash Exposure Compensation (+/- 2 EV in 1/3 stop increments) Face Detection FE, Safety FE and Flash Exposure Lock.

The power of the flash can be manually adjusted and Second Curtain Synchronisation is available too.

The range of the flash unit is 7m. This falls to 4m when the lens is zoomed in. You can increase flash power by buying an external flash unit (Canon High Power Flash HF-DC1). The Powershot G11 is also compatible with a range of Canon Speedlites.

Scene Modes

There are a number of preset scene modes. These are: Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Sports, Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Indoor, Sunset, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Aquarium, Underwater, Color Accent, Color Swap and Stitch Assist.

Movies

You can shoot short, TV quality movies with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The top recording speed is 30 frames per second. Sound can be recorded and zoom can be applied before shooting.

Among the more advanced features are:

Computer - Printers - Television

Canon supplies the necessary cables and software to connect the Powershot G11 to a television, computer and PictBridge compatible printer.
