Kimmeridge Bay is part of the Jurassic Coast. The rocks at Kimmeridge Bay formed the floor of a deep, tropical sea rich in pre-historic life. They formed in the Jurassic period, 155 million years ago.

The Dorset Coast World Heritage Site is the first natural World Heritage Site in England, and is known as The Jurassic Coast. It strtches 95 miles from Dorset into Devon.
