New Olympus Digital Cameras for Spring 2010

Olympus is introducing nine new digital cameras for spring 2010. This includes an entry level camera for the Olympus Tough range as well as four simple and easy cameras, plus four stylish models.

The new cameras are as follows:


Olympus MJU Tough 3000
Key features include being waterproof to a depth of 3m, shockproof for drops of up to 1.5m and freeze proof down to -10 degrees centigrade. Innovations include 1GB of built in memory. Olympus also includes a slot for SD memory cards. This is a movement away from the xD cards previously used in Olympus digital cameras. The camera can be charged by attaching it to a computer via a USB cable.

The MJU Tough 3000 has 12 megapixels and a 3.6x wide angle zoom lens. You can shoot High Definition movies and image stabilisation is available too. You have a choice of colours with versions available in red, blue, pink and green.

Next up are a group of digital cameras that should fit into most pockets, yet offer plenty of zoom power. The fact that the lenses also have wide angle capabilities means that they offer plenty of flexibility. This allows them to cover a range of photo opportunities.

Key features for each camera are:

Olympus MJU 9010: 14 megapixels, 10x zoom lens, HD movies, 2.7 inch LCD screen, Image stabilisation. Available in gold and black.

Olympus MJU 7040: 14 megapixels, 7x zoom lens, HD movies, 3 inch LCD screen, Image stabilisation. Available in silver, copper blue and pink.

Olympus MJU 7030: 14 megapixels, 7x zoom lens, HD movies,2.7 inch LCD screen, Image stabilisation. Available in silver, coral blue, purple.

Olympus MJU 5010: 14 megapixels, 5x zoom lens, HD movies, 2.7 inch LCD screen, Image stabilisation. Available in silver, pink and light blue.


Olympus FE-4030 - Olympus FE-4040 - Olympus FE-5030
These three cameras sit among the entry level digital cameras. They are all relatively easy to use and also fall at the lower end of the price scale.

They all use rechargeable batteries. The batteries can be charged via a computer using a USB cable. All three cameras offer wide angle lenses (FE-4030 4x, FE-4040 4x, FE-5030 5x). They are also all available in grey, blue, pink and white. Other similarities include a 2.7 inch LCD screen and the ability to use SD cards. The FE-4040 and the FE-5030 both offer image stabilisation.


Olympus FE-47
The FE-47 is powered by AA batteries. It is similar to the other three new FE models in terms of ease of use features, although its 5x zoom lens does not offer wide angle capabilities. It is available in silver, blue, black and red.
