The Fuji Finepix J250 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC FS62 are smaller compacts that are attractively priced. Both of these cameras will just about fit into a pocket. Looking at the prices of the Finepix J250 and the Lumix DMC FS62 it is no surprise to see that neither camera is overloaded with features. The upside of this is that you do not end up paying for features that you will not use. It also helps to make the two cameras relatively easy to use.

Although the features of these two cameras are quite similar there are areas where there are some subtle differences. To start with the Finepix J250 carries a large 3 inch screen. This compares well against the small 2.5 inch screen of the Lumix DMC FS62.
The Finepix J250 offers a wide angle lens and 5x zoom compared to the 4x zoom on offer from the Panasonic model. It is worth noting though that the Lumix DMC FS62 has a feature that allows you to decrease the number of megapixels you are shooting at in return for increased zoom power. When shooting at 3 megapixels a maximum 7.1x zoom can be used. This certainly adds to the flexibility of the camera.
Both cameras offer standard definition movies, but the Lumix DMC FS62 has a setting that is ideal for playback on a widescreen television. Other advantages this camera offers include additional colour effects and scene modes.
The Lumix DMC FS62 is the smaller of the two cameras. It fits easily into a relatively small pocket whereas the Finepix J250 can be more of a squeeze. Panasonic has also made available a number of colour options. These are black, red, blue, silver and pink.
This is an area where compromises have been made with each camera. Neither of them matches the response times of more expensive cameras. There is very little to choose between the cameras with the Finepix J250 having a very small edge.
Both cameras run on lithium ion batteries. Batteries and chargers are supplied by Fuji and Panasonic as standard.
Picture quality was surprisingly good from both cameras when you consider the price. Based purely on picture quality they are two of the better cameras in this price range. I found both cameras were able to take good close up shots. If I had to choose a winner for picture quality I would go with the Lumix DMC FS62. If you are only planning to make snapshot sized prints you will be unable to notice a great deal of difference, but the Panasonic camera is able to produce slightly crisper photos.
This is another area where there is little to separate the two cameras. Whichever camera you choose it should not take you too long to find your way around.
If I had to choose one of these two cameras I would go for the Panasonic Lumix DMC FS62. There is not a great deal to choose between the two cameras, but I feel this camera offers that bit better picture quality and also has a few more features than the Fuji Finepix J250.
