The Canon IXUS 100 IS and the Canon IXUS 110 IS are two of the best pocket sized digital cameras you can buy. They both score highly for picture quality and build quality. They also have a very attractive and stylish design.

Canon IXUS 100 IS 12 megapixels 3x Optical Zoom 2.5 inch LCD screen Viewfinder Macro Focus: 3cm Dimensions: 87 x 54.5 x 18.4mm Weight: 115g High Definition Movies |
Canon IXUS 110 IS 12 megapixels 4x wide angle optical zoom 3 inch LCD screen No Viewfinder Macro Focus 2cm Dimensions: 97.9 x 54.1 x 22.1mm Weight: 145g High Definition Movies |
Although these two camera offer more or less the same set of features there are a few subtle differences. To start with the IXUS 100 IS has a viewfinder. The trade off here comes in that it has a smaller sized LCD screen at 2.5 inches as opposed to a larger 2.8 inches. As well as being larger in size the screen on the IXUS 110 IS has a wide aspect. This helps you if you are shooting images you plan to playback on a widescreen television or create wide prints with.
The second main difference is the fact the IXUS 110 IS has a 4x wide angle lens. This will give this camera the edge if you enjoy photographing landscapes or if you like to take photos of groups of friends.
There is also a small difference in the focusing distances for close up shots. Here the IXUS 110 IS is able to get in 1cm closer at 2cm away from the subject.
The biggest difference here is size. Although there are only a few millimetres differences in the size of the two cameras the IXUS 100 IS certainly looks and feels much smaller in the hand. This camera is available in black, silver, red and gold, with the IXUS 110 IS having blue, silver, pink and gold versions.
Shutter lag times are very similar with the IXUS 110 IS having a slight edge. This camera is also one of the fastest cameras I have tested for turning on and taking the first photo.
Both cameras run on lithium ion batteries. Batteries and chargers are supplied as standard.
There is no difference in the picture quality the cameras are capable of.
It is the same when it comes to ease of use. Both models use the same menu system, so there is not a lot to split them. When you first buy the IXUS 110 IS it may surprise you to find that the buttons on the back of the camera are not marked so a little trial and error is required to work out what each one does.
With not a great deal of difference in the price there are likely to be three factors that come into the decision making process. The first is whether or not a viewfinder is important to you. If it is then the IXUS 100 IS gets a tick in the box. Next up is the wide angle lens. This is where the IXUS 110 IS has the advantage. Finally it is a case of looking at the size of the cameras. If you want a truly ultra compact model then the IXUS 100 IS has the edge here.
