Olympus MJU 760 Features

Olympus MJU 760

The Olympus MJU 760 is a seven megapixel digital camera with a three times optical zoom lens. The lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.4 to f5.7 and a focal length equivalent to 37 - 111mm in 35mm format. There is also a five times digital zoom feature. In macro mode the MJU 760 can focus from 8cm away from the subject.

Basics

Other useful features include image stabilisation, a self timer and the ability to use the camera as a voice recorder. There is also a feature allowing you to stitch together shots to create a panoramic effect. A continuous shooting mode allows you to take shots at a maximum rate of 1.1 frames per second until the card is full. You can also take up to thirteen, three megapixel photos at a rate of 3.6 frames per second.

After a photo has been taken you can try to improve its quality by correcting brightness, saturation and red eye. You can also change a photo so that it is in black and white or sepia.

LCD

For composing photos and viewing the menu system there is 2.5" LCD screen. This is made up of around 230,000 pixels.

Flash

Flash modes are automatic, red eye reduction, always on and always off. Olympus have not supplied a range for the flash.

Scene Modes

There is a wide selection of built in scene modes. By selecting a scene the camera recognises the type of shot you are about to take. It then uses what it considers to be the appropriate controls. The scenes are: Portrait, Landscape, Landscape with Portrait, Night Scene, Night scene with Portrait, Sports, Indoor, Candle, Self Portrait, Available Light Portrait, Sunset, Fireworks, Cuisine, Behind Glass, Documents, Auction, Shoot & Select 1, Shoot & Select 2, Beach and Snow, Underwater Wide 1, Underwater Wide 2 and Underwater Macro.

Movies

Movies with sound can be captured. The maximum resolution is 640 x 480 pixels. The speed of each movie is 15 frames per second. Zoom can be applied before a movie is recorded, but not while recording is in progress.

Advanced Features

More advanced features include white balance (automatic, sunlight, overcast, tungsten, flourescent 1, flourescent 2, flourescent 3), ISO (automatic, 64, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600), metering (ESP and spot) and exposure compensation (+/- 2 in 0.3 steps). Shutter speeds are set automatically by the camera. These work in the range 4 seconds to 1/1000 seconds.

Computer - Printers - Television

Cables and software to connect the Olympus MJU 760 to a television, computer and compatible printer are included in the box.

Verdict:"The Olympus MJU 760 falls short in my view when it comes to the all important picture quality. Weatherproof digital cameras are few and far between, so it is a shame to see it is unable to quite hit the heights some of its rivals can."
