The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM is aimed at the serious hobby photographer. The focal length range offered gives you a fair amount of zoom power. This amount of zoom provides you with a large amount of scope and flexibility for capturing differing subjects.
Eight diaphragm blades and a circular aperture help to ensure a touch of extra quality to background areas that are thrown out of focus when taking a photo.
Extra quality is also provided by a UD (Ultra Low Dispersion) element. Canon have also included image stabilisation to reduce unwanted picture blur as well as a ultrasonic motor (USM) for faster focusing times. Shorter focusing times are likely to be very useful if you are photographing sports or wildlife.
